At Solar Pesa, we believe that access to reliable and affordable energy is the foundation for economic opportunity. While Uganda’s electricity access has grown to about 60%, much of rural Uganda still lacks reliable power. Off-grid solar has been instrumental in bridging this gap, yet many households and micro-enterprises continue to face energy poverty that limits their productivity and income.
To address this challenge, Solar Pesa has introduced Solar Pesa Kiosks under an innovative Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model. Rather than requiring entrepreneurs to invest in expensive energy systems upfront, we provide fully installed and maintained solar-powered kiosks, allowing business owners to simply pay for the energy they use.
Each Solar Pesa Kiosk is equipped with high-efficiency solar panels, a lithium-ion battery system, an inverter, a solar-powered refrigerator, and mobile phone charging facilities. The kiosks enable entrepreneurs to offer essential community services, including mobile phone charging, cold drink sales, and the distribution of solar lamps and solar home systems.

One of our success stories is Mr. Edward Lomude, a South Sudanese refugee who has lived in Uganda since 2016. Like many refugees, Edward faced significant challenges in building a sustainable livelihood. Through collaboration with our partners, Solar Pesa installed a Solar Pesa Kiosk to power his business.
Today, Edward operates a thriving enterprise providing mobile phone charging services and selling cold drinks. Thanks to reliable solar energy, he earns a stable income while paying conveniently for the energy service through daily or weekly mobile money payments under the EaaS model. By eliminating the burden of equipment ownership and maintenance, Edward can focus on growing his business and supporting his family.
